The Cultural and Community Enrichment Series at 猫咪社区APP offers exciting opportunities for both students and the general public to experience and learn from artists, authors, business leaders, historians, philosophers, musicians, scientists, photographers, poets and other experts from around the world. These annual events are donor-funded and open to the public.

June is an artist, illustrator, designer, and teacher based in Millbrook, NY. She lived in Laramie, Wyoming for seven years, and her time there continues to influence her creative and community-driven practice. Her paintings have been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London and Nature Morte Gallery in Berlin. She is represented by Kenise Barnes Fine Art (East Coast) and Visions West Contemporary (Rocky Mountain West).

Her work has appeared in New American Paintings, The Paris Review, The Wall Street Journal, and Guernica, among others, and has been featured in film, on book covers, and in various design collaborations. She is also the co-founder of the Wyoming Art Party.

June鈥檚 practice bridges solitary studio work鈥攑rimarily painting鈥攁nd collaborative, socially engaged projects that explore how individuals and communities are seen and how they see themselves.

Experience the Power of Poetry and Music with Joy Harjo
Join us for a captivating evening with Joy Harjo, internationally acclaimed poet, musician, and the 23rd U.S. Poet Laureate. Known for weaving poetry with jazz, rock, and Indigenous rhythms, Harjo has been performing her original music since the early 1990s with her band Poetic Justice and more recently with Arrow Dynamics.

Her latest album, I Pray for My Enemies, is a powerful musical meditation that blends spoken word, saxophone, and song to explore healing, identity, and resilience. With performances spanning the globe鈥攆rom the Vancouver Folk Music Festival to the Library of Congress鈥擧arjo brings a deeply moving and unforgettable presence to every stage.

Where Afro-Caribbean Rhythms Meet Modern Jazz Mastery 鈥 The Sound
of 'Fiesta at Caroga

Led by guitarist Jose Guzman, The Afro-Caribbean Jazz Collective blends the heart of Afro-Caribbean rhythms with the sophistication of modern jazz. Their third album, "Fiesta at Caroga," has been making waves in the jazz world. It's been featured on jazz radio stations across the country, received glowing reviews from music critics, and charted on JazzWeek's Top 100 Jazz Albums of 2024.

A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Guzm谩n is a versatile guitarist, performing across jazz, classical, and rock genres. He served as an artist-in-residence at the Caroga Lake Music Festival and earned the 2020 Urbana Arts Grant to compose works blending Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms. His projects have also been supported by Chicago鈥檚 Department of Cultural Affairs, Illinois Arts Council, Music Performance Trust Fund, and Urbana Arts for the development and growth of the band. Guzman recordings include Dimitrije Vasiljevic, KASA String Quartet, and Mr. Chair.

United by friendship and artistic vision, these acclaimed vocalists blend original compositions, jazz standards, and inventive covers into a rich, genre-defying sound.
